Its coming up to holiday booking time, and you may have opted for a lovely, relaxing all inclusive holiday resort to spend your time at. Every year, my family and I do the same (but we tend to go I'm February - to get away from the harsh UK winter). This week, I am just back from a luxurious, all inclusive week in Hurghada, Egypt. Yes that means - unlimited food and drink, along with activities, shows, sand, sea and sun!
Now this blog post is not going to be telling you to restrict yourself in any way on one of these holidays - as I would be a huge hypocrite to suggest this! Remember this is your holiday, a break from the normal routine of life, a chance to relax and be care free. On these types of holidays, I definitely tend to over indulge in the huge variety of food available throughout the day - because, in all honesty - I love it! And it's great just to enjoy what's in front of you, without feeling guilty!
So why am I writing this post, if I'm not telling you to watch what you eat? Personally, staying active and ensuring I'm still moving is something that makes me feel good and I enjoy doing whilst on holiday. It can make you feel motivated and a little more productive with your days. For some people, thinking about physical movement on holiday, might be the last thing on their mind - and that's okay!!! Like I said, a holiday is a break from the ordinary, and if you want to take a week off or just not think about physical movement, then embrace that.
For now, I'm going to share with you 6 tips to stay active on your all inclusive holiday.
1) Try a new class - all inclusive resorts have plenty of complimentary fitness classes available throughout the day. Take this opportunity to try a few new ones and see if you like them! Some examples on my holiday were: Pilates, yoga, step aerobics and water aerobics.
2) Try a new sport - along with fitness classes, resorts often also a variety of sports - whether that's volleyball, football, archery or basketball!
3) Take a walk or a run along the beach - an easy activity for whatever level of fitness you hold! One of the great things about this activity, is that you take in the sights, sounds, textures and atmospheres of the beach whilst you move - and this reminds you that you're still on holiday, out of the normal routine back home.
4) Make use of the resort gym - if you are a dedicated gym go-er and want to continue your training, or whether you've never been to the gym and want to have a trial run to see if it's for you, you can make use of the resort gym to suit your desires! I personally continued going to the gym throughout my holiday, but trained in between the sun setting and dinner (when there wasn't much going on!).
5) Swim - Whether you love the salty sea water, or the comfort of a swimming pool (maybe even heated if you're lucky!); Swimming is an excellent full body exercise which can be bother relaxing and beneficial for your body.
6) Eat Accordingly - I know I said I wasn't going to touch on this but in order to feel physically able to participate in some of the above activities, I thought I'd give you some easy pointers to make sure your eating coincides with your physical activities: - Drink plenty of water (as an alternative to fizzy drinks and juices with added sugars. Also, especially if you are drinking lots of alcohol) - Stick to meal times (3 meals a day, to avoid excess snacking in-between) - Order only what you can eat (just because you can order lots of food, doesn't mean you should!)
I hope that this has been helpful to you, if you're looking to be more active on your all inclusive holiday. If not - I hope you enjoy a very restful break!
Lots of Love Ruth xxx
